Rich Proehl has lived in southeast Kansas since 1976, and in Parsons since 1994. He received undergraduate and graduate degrees from Kansas State University and has worked in the banking industry for 35 years. He has been active in the Parsons Chamber of Commerce, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Lions Club, Red Cross, Wesley United Methodist Church, former Board Member of Labette Health Foundation and Labette Community College Foundation, former Trustee of Labette Community College and the American Legion. Proehl was appointed to the Kansas House of Representatives in 2005 to fill a seat vacated by Jeffrey Jack, who was appointed to District Judge.
In the House, Rep. Proehl serves as Chairman of the House Transportation Committee. He also serves on the Transportation & Public Safety Budget and Appropriations Committees. Previously, he served on the Financial Institutions, Energy & Utilities, and Insurance Committees, as well as the 2013 Special Committee on Education.
Employed at Labette Bank for more than 20 years, he and his wife of 43 years, Linda, have two children and five grandchildren.

Linda began substitute teaching in USD 503 many years ago, then served as a teacher, then principal. She was appointed assistant superintendent in 1998 and became the district’s superintendent in 2009. Linda retired from the district in 2013.
